FAQ

Frequently asked Questions:

How much does a bespoke engagement ring start at?

Bespoke hand made rings start at £2000 however, if you have a budget lower than that there are still options. Please get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss them further with you.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

A deposit of 50% will be required before production of the piece can be started. This deposit is non refundable.

Can I use my old jewellery to create something new?

Most of the time your old jewellery can be used to create something new. We would however need to inspect it first to assess the quality of the materials and gauge whether or not they are suitable for reuse.

What if the ring doesn't fit?

Almost all rings can be resized and we offer a free resizing on new rings that we have made if for any reason the ring doesn't fit. You will be advised before hand if it is a ring that is difficult to or can't be resized.

How long does a hand made piece of jewellery take to make?

The length of time it takes to make a piece of hand made jewellery can vary massively, but typically we will work to a 2-4 week lead time for a bespoke engagement ring once we have agreed on a design. If you are working to a tight deadline then we will do our best to accommodate that.

How much should I spend on an engagement ring?

I get asked this question almost weekly and the answer is, however much you are comfortable with. It's worth baring in mind that this is a very special piece of jewellery which will be worn everyday for a very long time. When it comes to jewellery you really do get what you pay for. With that said, plunging in to massive debt isn't advised. (nothing wrong with a little bit though).

Will my jewellery be hallmarked?

It is a legal requirement to hallmark all jewellery that is over a certain weight. Those weights are 7.78g for silver, 1g gold, 1g palladium and 0.5g platinum.

What is CAD?

CAD stands for Computer Aided Design and is a means of creating 3D jewellery renders.

Do you incorporate CAD in to your process?

With certain projects (approx 5%) where it is more economical to use CAD, we may incorporate it into our process. We pride ourselves however, on being one of the few jewellery studios left that maintain the ability to hand make every piece from scratch. There's a certain finesse that can only be achieved from making a piece of jewellery by hand.

How do I clean my jewellery?

Most jewellery can be cleaned using nothing more than some standard washing up liquid, warm water and an old toothbrush. Leave the piece in the warm soapy water for 30 minutes before using the toothbrush to get up in behind the stones. This should dislodge any debris which can now be rinsed away.

Do I have to make and appointment?

We are currently appointment only. You can make an appointment by either using our contact form or dropping us an email at info@ryannelsonlondon.com

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

We typically only offer appointments between 9am - 7.30pm Monday to Friday. However, if you require an appointment outside of those times then please just let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Do you do repairs and alterations?

We have 24 years combined experience repairing and restoring antique jewellery and so are happy to discuss any of your requirements.
